About
C'est pas moi qui le dit, c'est X (French for "Im not the one saying it, X is") or Video game characters voting for Nouveau Front Populaire (French for "New Popular Front") refers to a series of fanarts and edited screenshots from different video games displaying characters requesting to vote for Nouveau Front Populaire, the French left-wing political coalition for the early legislative election in France occurring on June 30th and July 7th 2024. These screenshots are shared on X/Twitter with the sentence "C'est pas moi qui le dit c'est…" followed by the name of the pictured character, to imply that they're the one saying it. The screenshots often contain the catchphrase "la jeunesse emmerde le Front National" (French for "the youth says fuck the National Front"), referring to the far-right party Front National (French for "National Front") that changed their name to Rassemblement National (French for "National Rally") in 2018. This catchphrase comes from the 1985 song "Porcherie" by the French punk-rock music band Bérurier Noir.
Origin
On June 11th, 2024, Twitter/X user @xNadechi[1] posted a tweet saying "I'm not the one saying it, Hatsune Miku is!" with fan art of Hatsune Miku saying "Vote for Nouveau Front Populaire on June 30th!" and holding a sign with "the youth says fuck the National Front" written on it. The tweet gained over 2,200 retweets and 7,300 likes in two days.
It was posted in the context of the early legislative elections in France that will occur on June 30th and July 7th after Emmanuel Macron, the French president, announced the dissolution of the French parliament. This dissolution happened right after the 2024 European Parliament election, in which the French president's party suffered an important defeat against the far-right party Rassemblement National. With the coming of new legislative elections in France, the different left-wing parties decided on June 10th to unite in an alliance called Nouveau Front Populaire (New Popular Front) in reference to the similar alliance, Popular Front, that won the 1936 legislative elections in France.
Spread
The Hatsune Miku fan art immediately inspired multiple users on Twitter/X to create edited screenshots of video game characters saying the catchphrases, "vote for the New Popular Front" and "the youth says fuck the National Front", under tweets saying "I'm not the one saying it, [this character] is." The meme has spread as a quote-tweet chain, as users have posted their variations as a quote-tweet to another popular variation, and so on.
