Charlotte Awbery's Subway "Shallow" Video refers to a viral video of a woman who, when approached by a comedian to finish the lyrics to "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, gave a stirring performance of the song. The clip grew popular on social media as viewers were impressed by Awberry's voice.

Origin

On February 16th, 2020, comedian Kevin Freshwater posted a video wherein he approaches strangers and challenges them to complete lyrics on the spot. At the end of his video, he approached a woman and challenged her to complete the lyrics to "Shallow" by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born. The woman gave a stirring performance of the song. The clip gained over 17 million views on Facebook.[1]

On February 18th, 2020, an isolated version of the clip featuring just the woman was posted to Twitter by user @antspats2, gaining over 1.12 million likes (shown below). In the ensuing thread, the user identified the woman as Charlotte Awbery.[3] The same clip was posted to Freshwater's Instagram on February 20th, 2020, gaining over 555,000 views.[2]



After the video began going viral on Twitter, users began looking through Awbery's Instagram and commenting upon their admiration for her. User @FonzFranc[4] wrote that they were "ready to stan" if they were sure Awberry didn't have a racist past, gaining over 34,000 retweets and 259,000 likes (shown below, left). User @YaUpperBody[5] posted pictures of Awberry at a wedding, commenting, "why she eat up the bride like this!?!" gaining over 18,000 retweets and 200,000 likes (shown below, right).

Awberry's new viral fame was covered by Today,[6] Buzzfeed,[7] Popcrave,[8] and others. Jokes about her fame were covered by the Daily Dot.[9]
