Bobby Maine Reversing Car and Crying is a reaction image macro series featuring a shot from the 2018 musical drama film A Star Is Born.
Origin
On October 5th, 2018, the film A Star Is Born premiered in the United States.[1] In the film, Jackson Maine tells his brother Bobby (portrayed by Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott, respectively), that he idolized him. After hearing this, the two-part ways and the camera holds a close up on Bobby as he reverses his car down a driveway while crying (clip below).
Later that year, on December 10th, 2018, the verified A Star Is Born Twitter [2] account shared the frame that would be used in memes. The post received more than 3,100 likes and 470 retweets in less than two years (shown below).

The following day, editor Dominick Nero tweeted[3] an edited version of the image with the caption, "me as a kid playing mario kart against my older brother." The post received more than 4,900 likes and 700 retweets in less than two years (shown below, left).
On December 13th, comedian Jaboukie Young-White tweeted[4] the image with the caption, "my organs watching me take medication on an empty stomach with cold brew." The tweet received more than 79,000 likes and 13,000 retweets in less than two years (shown below, center). That day, Redditor [6] ihaveallthelions shared the tweet in the /r/BlackPeopleTwitter subreddit, where it received more than 11,000 points (8% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than two years.
Over the next year, people continued to share variations of Young-White's tweet, replacing the type of medication and the type of chaser. For example, on January 24th, 2020, iFunny [5] user PureAndWholesome shared the image with the caption, "My organs watching me take 800mg of ibuprofen on an empty stomach and chase it with 2 energy drinks." The post received more than 63,000 reactions and 1,100 comments in less than six months (shown below, right).
