About
The Chromebook Durability Test TikTok Trend, also known as the Chromebook Challenge or Chromebook TikTok Trend, refers to a 2025 trend of destroying Google Chromebook laptops at school and posting the videos on TikTok. The trend started in early March 2025, following a viral video of someone throwing a Chromebook against a school bathroom wall and joking that it was a "Chromebook durability test." The trend evolved when the Chromebook Annihilation Combo was added, leading to more elaborate destruction of the school property. Some laptops were also set on fire as smoke filled classrooms, while others were dismantled and smashed. The trend was deemed an internet challenge by worried parents and school faculty, who expressed concern and levied backlash against the social media trend in early May 2025 as media outlets began reporting on it. In many ways, the school property-centric trend mirrored the controversial Devious Licks Trend from late 2021.
Origin
On March 5th, 2025, the TikTok[1] account of Barstool Sports reposted a video, who they credited to a TikToker[2] named @chapstick_1. The video is no longer on their account.
The video showed a Chromebook being thrown against a school bathroom wall and floor until it was broken into many pieces. The text caption read, "Chromebook durability test," and Barstool's repost received over 16,200 likes in two months (shown below).
