Creepy John Travolta, also known as John Travolta Lurker, is a photoshop meme based on an image of the American Hollywood actor awkwardly kissing actress Scarlett Johansson on the red carpet at the 87th Academy Awards in February 2015.

Origin

On February 22nd, 2015, Travolta posed for a photograph with Johansson during the red carpet ceremony at the 2015 Academy Awards. That evening, Hollywod photographer Kevin Mazur released the photographs to the celebrity photo website WireImage^[8] (shown below).

During the ceremony, Travolta's overly affectionate gestures became one of the talking points of the evening, as he was also seen kissing Idina Menzel on the forehead while making a joint appearance on stage to redeem himself for last year's "Adele Dazeem" flub.

On the following day, Redditor -RickGrimes uploaded one of the red carpet photos to the /r/photoshopbattles^[1] subreddit, inviting viewers to submit digitally edited versions of the image. Within 24 hours, the post gained over 3,500 votes (93% upvoted) and 500 comments, including a variety of notable photoshopped examples (shown below).

The same day, Mashable editor Christine Erickson tweeted an edited image featuring Travolta, Kanye West and United States Vice President Joe Biden crowding around Johansson on the red carpet.^[7] In the coming days, several news sites published articles about the photoshop meme, including Yahoo,^[2] The Inquisitr^[3], Mashable,^[6] E!
