The exact origins of the green tea shot are unclear, but the earliest apparent recipe for green tea shots was posted to YouTube by Drink Lab[1] on November 24th, 2015, gaining over 56,000 views in seven years (shown below). They also posted the recipe to the DrinkLab[2] website.

Splash of lemonade / Sprite / lemon-lime soda

White Tea Shot

A white tea shot is identical to a green tea shot but uses vodka instead of Irish whisky.

Green tea shots became increasingly popularized throughout the mid-to-late 2010s and the 2020s. On April 12th, 2022, TikToker[3] @angel.dookie posted a video joking about getting too drunk on green tea shots, gaining over 8 million views in a month (shown below).
