About

Urban Exploration, also often shortened to Urbex, is the exploration, and documentation by video and photography, of abandoned structures such as factories, hospitals, theme parks or military bases. Its popularity has increased in recent years due to the proliferation of camera drones, as well as high resolution cameras and digital camcorders.

Origin

The exact origins of Urban Exploration are unknown, but it is widely believed that The Suicide Club, which originated in San Francisco, California, on January 2nd, 1977, was one of the first urban exploration groups.[2]
