Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets are a discontinued menu from the American fast food franchise Wendy's. In 2019, Wendy's announced that they would begin serving the Spicy Chicken Nuggets again.

History

In 2009, Wendy's began testing the Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets. In one of the earliest reviews of the item, the website GrubGrade.com^[1] said on December 26th, 2009, "My first impressions: I actually tried these new nuggets earlier in the week. They were pretty much what I expected. If you’ve had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, it’s basically a nugget form of that patty. It’s a denser crust than the regular nuggets and it does have a decent amount of heat."

On July 26th, 2010, YouTuber prttyshtty posted one the commercials for the nuggets. The post received more than 135,000 views in nine years (shown below).

In March 2017, Wendy's discontinued the Spicy Chicken Nuggets. However, while the company kept the Nuggets available in select markets, such as Austin, Texas and St. Louis, Missouri, fans of the Nuggets spoke out against the decision.^[2][3]

The discontinuing of the Spicy Chicken Nuggets was met with an outpouring of negative criticism from fans (examples below, left). On March 4th, 2019, Twitter ^[4] user @Toriisaunders tweeted, "If the Jonas Brothers can make a comeback so can Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets." The post went viral, receiving more than 24,000 retweets and 75,000 likes in less than three months (shown below, right).

In November 2018, Twitch streamer Asmongold said during a Twitch stream that he would promote Wendy's for six months on his stream if they brought back the Spicy Chicken Nuggets. The post received more than 6,600 views in less than one year (shown below).

On May 4th, 2019, American recording artist Chance the Rapper tweeted,^[5] "Positive Affirmations for today: I WILL have a good day, I Will succeed today, Wendy’s WILL bring back spicy nuggets at some point please please Lord let it be today." The tweet received more than 36,000 retweet and 230,000 likes in three days (shown below)

That day, Wendy's retweeted the message and wrote,^[6] "Y’all keep asking, so here’s your chance. The people in charge say if you guys can get our tweet (this one right here) to 2 Million likes, they will bring SPICY CHICKEN NUGGETS BACK. Let’s freakin’ do this!" The tweet received more than 419,000 retweets and 2.1 million likes in three days (shown below, left).

The following day, Wendy's confirmed that they had, in fact, reached its 2 million retweet goal. They tweeted,^[7] "THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Spicy Chicken Nuggets are coming back! Y’all are crazy!
That took like a day and a half! WHAT?! We don’t know when yet, gotta figure it out, but soon, and ok, LOSING IT RIGHT NOW THIS IS AMAZING!!" The tweet received more than 95,000 retweets and 371,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center).

Wendy's also responded to Twitch streamer Asmongold, who had voiced his support for the Spicy Chicken Nuggets on his stream. They tweeted,^[11] "We heard you. Yes, you specifically were heard on our Twitch. lol Thanks, friend." The tweet received more than 45 retweets and 1,000 likes in three days (shown below).
