Emo Wendy's refers to fan art depicting the mascot of fast food chain Wendy's in emo fashion, which grew popular after Twitter users discovered a 2022 piece showing Wendy's in emo fashion from the brand's Camden Open Air Gallery collab in Camden, London, UK.

Origin

On June 17th, 2022, the eighth Wendy's food chain restaurant was opened in Camden, London, UK.^[1] To celebrate it, they contacted a Camden Open Air Gallery artist named Xander Coy to create a mural of Wendy's mascot in various styles. One of the "Wendys" was depicted with a haircut reminiscent of a typical emo haircut.^[2] (shown below).

On April 22nd, 2024, Twitter / X^[3] user @yupthtexists uploaded a post about the "Emo Wendy's" that received more than 700 reposts and 5,400 likes in two weeks (shown below).

One week later, @yupthtexists' post inspired Twitter / X artists to create fan art of her. For example on April 29th, 2024, Twitter / X^[4] user @_10qi uploaded fan art of Emo Wendy that received more than 4,200 reposts and 31,900 likes in one week (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter / X^[5] user @Artrextino_ uploaded fan art of Emo Wendy smoking that received more than 1,900 reposts and 22,800 likes in one week (shown below, right).

On May 1st, 2024, Twitter / X^[6] user @joecanvas uploaded fan art that received more than 640 reposts and 4,000 likes in one week (shown below).
