Chance the Rapper (real name: Chancelor Bennett) is an American-born hip-hop artist from Chicago, Illinois. Since receiving mainstream attention with 2013 mixtape Acid Rap, he has become a popular figure in the rap community, releasing several popular mixtapes and appearing in television commercials.

History

Bennett was born April 16th, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois.^[1] Jones attended Jones College Prep High School. In 2011, Bennett was suspended for ten days for possession of marijuana on campus. The suspension led to the recording of his first mixtape, 10 Day (shown below, left). A track off the mixtape, "Windows," led to his being named by Complex as one of "10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out For." After touring with Childish Gambino, Chance recorded and released his second mixtape, Acid Rap, released April 30th, 2013 ("Good Ass Intro" shown below, right).

The mixtape brought Chance much more mainstream success. The mixtape received a score of 86/100 on Metacritic. It was nominated for Best Mixtape at that year's BET Awards. It was also featured in several music publication's Best of 2013 lists. In May of 2015, he released an album called Surf under the name Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment with musicians featured on his Social Experiment tour ("Sunday Candy" shown below, left). Chance played a major part in Kanye West's The Life of Pablo album, helping compose several of the tracks. On May 12th, 2016, he released his third mixtape, Coloring Book, which received a 90/100 on Metacritic ("Same Drugs" shown below, right).

After the success of this mixtape, Chance began appearing in television commercials, notably for Kit Kat Bars, where he remixed the famous Kit Kat Bar jingle (shown below).

Chance has a significant social media presence. He is active on Twitter where he has over 7.3 million followers.^[2] He has over 1.9 million likes on Facebook. ^[3] He also has over 7.5 million followers on Instagram. ^[4] Notably, on March 20th, 2018, he took to Twitter to ask his fans for help finding a meme, which was included in Twitter Moments.^[5]

BET Awards Reaction

Chance the Rapper BET Awards Reaction refers to a series of image macros featuring performing artist and music producer Chance the Rapper from the 2017 BET Awards in which Chance is seen smiling and holding his chest. Most of the captions for the picture display wholesome and good hearted reactions. At the 2017 BET Awards, Chance the Rapper was filmed holding his chest and smiling. During the the broadcast, Twitter user @YoAdriBaby posted the moment to Twitter with the caption "I had to rewind to capture Chance in his essence 💛." The post (shown below) received more than 9,900 retweets and 21,000 likes in three days.
