Desenrola, Bate, Joga de Ladin refers to a Brazilian dance trend that started on TikTok in March 2022, in which the dancer has to do the movements following as song’s lyrics which say to “unroll, tap and throw it to the side”, in English.

The trend became very popular around March of the same year and over 2 million videos uploaded on TikTok and more than 800,000 posts on Instagram Reels feature the dance.

Origin

The song “Desenrola, Bate, Joga de Ladin” is a collaboration by the group Os Hawaianos with the trapper L7nnon and the DJs Bel da CDD and Biel do Furduncinho. A music video was uploaded on YouTube^[1] on April 6th, 2022 and has reached over 91 million views in five months.

In an interview for the site Veja Rio^[2] on May 9th, 2022, one of the songwriters explained that “the choreography was inspired by the movements of his nephews” and another kid. The dance is performed by unrolling the arms, clapping the hands and then twerking to the side.

The success of the new song started when a snippet of the music was uploaded on TikTok, around the end of March and some soccer players like Neymar^[3] started doing the choreography to celebrate their goals (shown below).

The easy-to-replicate dance moves made this dance trend get popular on TikTok, with more than 2 million videos of dances featuring the song posted in six months. Influencers like @domelipa^[4] also posted videos doing the dance, which helped to spread the dance challenge to other Latin American countries.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo^[5] joined the dance trend on June 21st, 2022 in a post uploaded on his niece's TikTok account. The video has 3.5 million views in two months and was shared across other social media like Instagram and Twitter.
