Discord is a villain in the animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (MLP: FiM). A pony-dragon hybrid known as a “draconequus," the character is introduced in the show's second season premiere as a cunning manipulator with powerful magical abilities. In the show, Discord performs a shuffle-style dance which inspired a series of YouTube remix videos.
Origin
On September 12th, 2011, the tech news blog Wired[1] posted a leaked one minute clip showing footage from the upcoming second season of MLP:FiM. In the video, several ponies discover Discord at the entrance to a hedge maze, where he proceeds to disable their magical powers in order to make them play a game of his choosing. The same day, a screen capture of the footage was posted on the Cheezburger site My Little Brony.[27]
The Character
Discord is the former ruler of Equestria, the land in which MLP:FiM takes place. During his reign, he was seen as a tyrant by Equestria's inhabitants, which caused Celestia and her sister Luna to imprison him in stone using magical artifacts known as the "Elements of Harmony." When the artifacts broke their bond with Celestia and Luna, they connected to Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Rainbow Dash, which allowed Discord to break free from the prison. Using powerful magic and illusions, Discord manipulated the ponies in a series of tests but was ultimately turned to stone by the Elements of Harmony a second time.

On September 13th, 2011, the web culture blog UpRoxx[28] published an article titled "Good News, Bronies: My Little Pony is Back, and Star Trek's Q is Voicing the Villain", which contained an embed of the leaked video footage from Wired. On September 17th, the full episode "The Return of Harmony" was released, which featured Discord as the primary antagonist against Twilight Sparkle and her friends. The same day, DeviantArt[26] user Vitoamito submitted a fan art of the character.
On October 22nd, a photograph of Discord papercraft sculpture (below, left) was posted on the Paperkraft[30] art blog. On October 31st, FanFiction.net[29] user Bronuis Maximus submitted a fanfiction story titled "Discord's Reign", which received mostly positive reviews from the community. On May 5th, 2012, an animated pixel art version of the character was posted on My Little Brony.[25]
The meme has continued to spread on sites like Deviantart[2][6][7][8], Ponibooru[3], the /r/mylittlepony[4] subreddit and Ponychan.[5] As of May 15th, 2012, a Facebook[24] page for Discord has received over 3,100 likes.

Discord Dance
In the second season premiere of MLP:FiM, Discord performs a dance similar to the Melbourne Shuffle in a stained glass window. On September 17th, 2011, YouTuber Trizero126[19] posted a video of Discord performing the dance to the song “On the Dancefloor” by the electronic musician David Guetta (shown below, top, left). The same day, the single-serving site Disco Discord[20] was launched, which featured the looped animation accompanied by the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by the electronic duo Daft Punk. Shortly after, other YouTubers began uploading remix videos of the dance scene, in similar fashion to the DJ P0N-3 dub videos.

Discord is voiced by the American actor John de Lancie. The day after the first Discord episode aired on September 18th, 2011, de Lancie reacted to the sudden surge in attention from pony fans on his Twitter account.[14]

De Lancie is known for playing the omnipotent trickster Q in the science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. In an interview at the 2011 BronyCon convention, MLP: FiM supervising director Jayson Thiessen mentioned that Discord was created with the Q character in mind. On September 25th, sections of the interview were posted to the MLPonies Forums[16] by member Headless Horse.
"Discord was a character straight off Lauren's pen, because apparently she'd been bingeing on Trek:TNG lately at the time that script got written. She decided to play him just like Q, because why the hell not? She'd originally planned to have Discord voiced by a De Lancie soundalike; but then during one of the meetings, someone (Jayson said it might well have been him) just said, "Why don't we just try to get the real guy?" Sure it cost money, but Hasbro said why the hell not? And John was free, and he was game, so there's our Discord. Why the hell not?"
On September 28th, fans edited the Q Wikipedia[18] page to match the Wikipedia[31] description for Discord. The changes were reset a few hours later with the message "Very funny, guys. Real mature."

I'm going to agree with Drpepperfan. Me and RandomMan have talked about this, and we have agreed that we should wait before adding to the compilation pages we edit. This one can probably fit in reactions, but only if it survives. Because there are so many, we need to set a higher bar for pony memes to have their own pages, and this doesn't meet it yet.

I though we had some sort of an agreement not to post an entry for Discord Dance, unless we actually see it spread and survive on the following weeks. If I remember correctly, the people thought it was way too early to make an entry, when it was brought up on the Forum.
And even if it were to spread, I don't think this needs its own page. But it might be a good idea to mention it on some other entry page. Maybe on Pony Reactions or something.

His video has the most views of any "Dancin Discord" video on YouTube (22k as opposed to the 1k to 2k most people have as of this writing) either because he thought to ask Equestria Daily to list it, and/or he's just better than others at promoting. But he has the arrogance to act like he's the only one to come up with this, and everyone else is just getting the idea from him in particular. He even suggested the flash versions of it are a tribute to him. Don't believe me? Read the comments! Jeez! That's why I like the Japanese and their Nico Nico Douga fanbase. When they appear in a fad video personally, they always wear a mask or have their face off camera. Not a sign of people who give a crap about taking credit for a fast-spreading-meme.

STRONGLY disagree with Drpepperfan, Daugeas, and everyone agreeing with them. The whole thing about internet memes is that they spread THAT quickly. A WEEK? Seriously? Why not 10 years? In internet time, those two are basically the same thing. Alright, I'm adding it as a MLP sub-meme. However, this will not stop it from getting deadpooled. I'm seeing a rise in Discord memes, some more popular than others. This one is by far the most popular, it is almost rising to Scratch levels when that episode just aired, based on the vids available. Pony Re-Imaginings is also getting too crowded to hold yet another MLP meme. So a special page for this doesn't seem that bad.
I will decide what to do with it after the weekend. Then part 2 has aired and we can use the weekend to let the memes develop some more. If Discord is still very popular then, I'll probably change this to a Discord character entry (similar to the Scratch and Derpy entry). Based on the media and information that has already been added, this entry works fine, so a new entry will not be needed. But certain developments this week might change that. If everything around Discord has died or seems like it is going to die, this is going to the Deadpool. But for now, I'll keep this as preparation.

I am a brony. I love this show. I DON'T like that fact that there are 9,001 entries about it on this site. I say that, since it is so close to it, merge this page with Trollestia.
Discord is the name of the newest villain fetaured in Season 2 Episode 1 in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
Earlier in teasers provided by The Hub Network we became aware of the character. Cheerilee's class makes a field trip to the Canterlot gardens describing it as draconeqqus, "with the head of a pony and a body a made up of all sorts of things."
Since the ponies where unable to identify what it was they argued and had a huge fight, but they all agreed that in the end it reprsents the spirit of Discord.
Discord's obnoxious behavior is very similar to that of internet trolling such as giving ponies "chocolate rain" and "slender bunnies" , see "Slenderman" wrapping them in mind confusing riddles which only contribute to more lack of harmony, and references to songs from LMFAO's Part Rock Anthem "everyday I'm shuffling."
Excellent work, Randomman. Discord does deserves his own page. There have been a lot of videos involving Discord dancing, and there have been a lot of arts depicting Discord in various ways. Many of these arts range from silly to grimdark.
I accidentally found out how the grimdark arts portray him and the discorded ponies when I looked under the "Nightmare Fuel" section in the TVTropes page under "MLP: FiM."
Luckily, I relieved myself by looking at the Discord arts linked under the "Crowning Moment of Funny" page.

To some of you who complain about this entry, it's a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic SUB-meme. Sometimes it'd take knowing the show well to get it. This is a very popular character among fandom, but you wouldn't know that would you?
Well the article is certainly very well written now, and it's a lot better having it be about Discord than just one tiny meme….but still. I don't think I agree with this having a page. We'll have to wait and see i suppose.

If it gets deadpooled, then so be it. You can't force stuff.
I made this decission after I researched the other character entries. I won't put Discord on Derpy levels, that difference is just too big. But Discord Dance has already more vids than Vinyl Scratch and Discord himself is already growing faster in popularity then when Scratch first appeared. This entry also already contains more information than Doctor Whooves, and I'm still not done with it. People are also not happy with Sweet Apple Massacre, yet we're letting that one stay.
Maybe this gives some reasons to make people accept the entry. But still, if this is not needed and gets a deadpool, then so be it.

@randomman The difference between Discord and those three is that they were nameless background characters with no personalitys that somehow got names and became hugely popular. Discord was a main character in the first 2 episodes of the new season and had many scenes and lines, so it's no wonder he's got more vids. That's like saying we should have a page for Cheerilee or Trixie, cause they're popular with the fandom. The important part isn't popularity: It's if it's memetic or not. This just seems like a popular character rather than a memetic one.

What are the justifications of this being a meme? Could someone explain?
The popularity of this one character is the same as the popularity of any of the mains. It's not like the background ponies, where fans have collaboratively assigned characteristics. This is just repetitive instances of the same character. It's popular, but I don't think its a meme any more then fan art of one of the main six would be.
I say we just open up a new site called "Know Your Pony".

While it may be true that Trizero126 posted the first discord dancing video (this has yet to be confirmed further than date of post as far as I know) it is not technically the original video. This is because everyone had the same idea and/or realization at the same time, and dozens of videos were posted using this footage and meme like structure on the same day. (sept 17th) Thus there is NO original video for the discord dance meme, only its top contributors. I do not claim originality in my video, nor do I claim that his is not first, I am merely claiming that no-one is original here, only a contributor or top contributor.
Its just not fair in my opinion towards others, or those who are unaware of how this "meme" started.
Discord is like the ultimate troll. He gets Star Trek nerds hooked, ends up being a one-time villain, then leaves them as bronies. Meanwhile, he's not really dead, he's just gone back to Star Trek land, where he is currently saying, "U mad bro?"

Some would say each rage face gets its own article because most of them have very different origins.
However, I do not disapprove of this article.
Still, we need better-defined criteria for what pony-related phenomena should get their own articles and what should just get a paragraph or two in one of the other articles, and then clean up the FiM series articles accordingly.

But still, on KYM there's a huge mess with pony threads on KYM, on thread "MLP character fandom" there's still not a single word 'bout mane six, even though they have obviously biggest participation in fandom.

@will actually you should look up your facts first… he is based off of a draconequus, a dragon like body, but has multiple animal parts for hands, feet, and head. Draconequus's have the ability of distortion, as in they can manipulate you… and you are correct in the form of a chimera, but chimera's are man made, not natural. yes this is in my mythology book from 1992, so yeah (: |)

Discord's a boss character, but not a meme. The real Discord meme is of a really weird face (that is not mentioned here, I see) that was supposedly Discord's, posted in the time leading up to Season 2's premiere.

Alright, I'm going to post a little argument for a deadpool here.
Discord isn't like the background ponies. This character does not have characteristics assigned to it by the fans. There was no mutation in this page.
All we have here if fanart. Fanart and fandom for a character on a show. I don't think it's significant. If this article is significant, we should just make a page for every pony, homestuck character, or any character at all that is significantly popular.
All in all, this does not qualify for a page and I'm shocked it's not deadpooled yet.
My fellow members of KYM, not everything, character, or event that spawns in the show or out should be called a meme. People don't want to see a page for every character from every loved show.
Even though Discord is my favorite pony, he doesn't deserve a page.
Discord is also like the Christian demon: Asmodeus, a chaotic hybrid creature who tempts people with lies and who is also the "King of Hell". I'm not Christian myself but I thought that the similarities were interesting.
