Draw the Squad Playing Monopoly is a draw the squad redraw template depicting a group of people playing a chaotic game of Monopoly. The template was first uploaded to Tumblr in 2015, inspiring redraws depicting OC characters and characters from various fandoms playing Monopoly over the following years. It saw another bout of virality on X (Twitter) in 2023 when it was reposted by a user who encouraged others to redraw it.

Origin

On November 1st, 2015, Tumblr^[1] user tsukiyamas posted a drawing of seven generic characters playing an elaborate, chaotic game of Monopoly, writing, "Imagine your OCs like," garnering over 39,700 notes in nine years (shown below).

Spread

The image was redrawn numerous times throughout the late 2010s, going viral on sites like Tumblr, Reddit and Deviant Art. On November 17th and December 12th, 2015, Deviant Art^[2][3] users KarmaBanshee and KoikoPunk-Unded posted redraws depicting "Undertale": and "RWBY": characters over the template, garnering over 200 favorites and 1,000 favorites respectively in nine years (shown below, left and right).

On March 11th, 2016, Deviant Art^[4] user xx-d34d-h4v3n-xx posted a colored version of the template, inspiring others to redraw it, garnering 1,300 favorites and numerous redraws in the comments section over the following years.

On June 5th, 2023, X^[5] user @_VioMarks_ reposted the original template, writing, "we as a society should bring this back into the mainstream," garnering over 58,000 likes and 9,300 reposts in eight months. The post inspired numerous redraws in the quote reposts on X^[6][7][8] that month (examples shown below).
