Eating Ass

About

"Eating Ass" is a slang expression referring to the practice of anilingus, also known as "rimming" or "salad tossing," an oral sex act in which a person stimulates the anus of another by using their mouth. Online, the phrase is often used in various jokes about the practices, many of which are used to caption various image macros.

Origin

The exact origin of the phrase is unknown. On July 29th, 2006, an entry for "eat ass" was submitted to Urban Dictionary^[1] (shown below).

Spread

On June 13th, 2011, YouTuber PrivateHH uploaded footage from a Kevin Hart stand-up comedy routine in which he discusses the practice (shown below).

On December 7th, 2014, YouTuber Filthy Frank uploaded a music video titled "I EAT ASS (FULL SONG)" (shown below, left). Over the next four years, the video received more than 3.5 million views and 6,200 comments. On April 21st, 2015, YouTuber VineArchive uploaded a comedy sketch in which a rapper is chastised for rhyming about "eating ass" (shown below, right).

On June 9th, 2017, Redditor PmButtPics4ADrawing posted a bad acronym using "eat ass" to /r/wholesomememes^[2] (shown below, left). On August 16th, Twitter user @elijahdaniel tweeted a Playboy article with the joke "it's 2017 grandpa we eat ass now" (shown below, right). Over the next seven months, the tweet received upwards of 450,700 likes and 140,600 retweets.

On October 16th, 2017, YouTuber Dom Mazzetti uploaded a comedy sketch titled "Dom Mazzetti vs. Eating Ass and Gun Control," which garnered more than 717,000 views and 2,500 comments in six months (shown below).

On January 2nd, 2018, the blog Lifehacker^[3] published an article titled "How to Eat Ass." On January 10th, Redditor vault214 posted a picture from the film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace titled "When you eat ass for the first time" to /r/PrequelMemes (shown below). Within one month, the post gained over 10,200 points (94% upvoted) and 150 comments.

Ass Eating Season

On October 6th, 2017, Barstool Sports tweeted a video of a man performing analingus at a concert, saying "NSFW: Folks, Concert Season Is Ass Eating Season."^[4] Throughout the rest of the month, the site promoted October as "ASSEATNSZN," promoting fans who got in on the trend on their Instagram page (example shown below).

On October 18th, 2017, the term spiked in popularity following a viral tweet by @graceL721, who tweeted a screenshot of her mother thinking "Ass Eating Season" meant when roads are icy so you slip and fall. The tweet gained over 105,000 retweets and 416,000 likes (shown below). The tweet was covered by Mashable^[5] and gained over 30,000 points on /r/WhitePeopleTwitter.^[6]

On October 24th, 2017,^[7] Ass Eating Season was defined on Urban Dictionary. Urban Daddy^[8] covered the spread of Barstool Sports and "Ass Eating Season" in November of 2017.
