Enough Time Has Passed is a catchphrase often used as a setup for unpopular opinion posts and hot takes on social media. The phrase is typically used in conjunction with the greater-than sign image to express an opinion that one thing (such as a film or a musical album) is definitively better than another, sometimes ironically.

Origin

On September 27th, 2021, X / Twitter^[1] user @fuckbeetwt made the earliest found notable unpopular opinion post that employed the phrase "enough time has passed" as a setup. The post, which praised Among Us, gained over 1,400 retweets and 20,900 likes in two years (shown below).

The catchphrase achieved more prominence as a setup for unpopular opinions and hot takes throughout 2022. For example, on February 18th, 2022, X^[2] user @igxrlmao posted a greater-than sign post comparing two albums that received over 2,000 reposts and 13,100 likes in a year and a half (shown below, left). On May 20th, X^[3] user @chuusauce made another post comparing two K-pop albums, which accrued over 960 reposts and 5,700 likes in one year (shown below, right).

More posts using the catchphrase in conjunction with the greater-than sign comparison format went viral in the second half of 2022 and in 2023. For example, on November 27th, 2022, X^[4] user @EXILEREM made a post that rated Netflix series Wednesday higher than Stranger Things, which received over 3,600 retweets and 15,400 likes in seven months. On April 9th, 2023, X^[5] user @CBMovieFan made a post comparing the 2023 film Barbie against Zach Snyder's Justice League. The post (shown below, right) received over 7,300 reposts and 107,000 likes in five months.

In September 2023, the format saw a surge in popularity after it was used in a notable Kagura Bachi Glazing post, being used in various Kagura Bachi memes during that period.
