Overview
Kyle Carrozza Child Pornography Arrest refers to the arrest of Kyle Adam Carrozza, creator of the Cartoon Network series Mighty Magiswords, who was detained by police in late June 2024 on two counts of alleged child pornography possession. Although unconfirmed by any official reports and media outlets, a rumor was spread on Twitter / X in late July 2024 alleging that Carrozza possessed 16 terabytes of illegal child abuse content on his computer and several hard drives. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one count of possession of over 600 images of child pornography. Following the story breaking online and rumors surrounding the case garnering virality, Carrozza's arrest generated widespread discourse on social media in late July 2024.
Background
On June 20th, 2024, Kyle Adam Carrozza was arrested at an apartment complex in Burbank, California. The arrest was part of an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigation and he was charged with the possession of at least 12 videos and 600 images of child pornography.[1]
Developments
Although he was detained in June, it was only on July 14th, 2024, that Carrozza's arrest was shared online.[2] The X[3] / Twitter page @ToonHive posted one of the earliest viral mentions about the controversy (seen below), which amassed more than 23,000 likes and 5,000 reposts in two weeks.
Online Reactions
On July 22nd, 2024, X[4] user @filippomaria60 tweeted about Carrozza's arrest, claiming the Mighty Magiswords creator attempted to resist but was tasered. The post (seen below) also alleged that "16 terabytes of illegal child abuse content were discovered on his computer," making him one "of history's most devious pedophiles." The tweet received more than 5,400 likes and 4,200 reposts in two days.
The unconfirmed rumors spread by @filippomaria60 on X sparked a series of enraged reactions from other users, which turned the term "16 terabytes" into a trending topic. For example, on July 24th, 2024, X[5] user @AJAmmirabilis tweeted a meme to express her reaction after searching about the 16 terabytes topic. The post (seen below, left) amassed more than 2,100 likes and 184 reposts in a few hours.
On the same day, X[6] user @DynamoSuperX posted an image of Rigby from the Regular Show paired with the caption "16 TERABYTES OF CHILD PORN??? Oh, nah he ain't never getting out." The post (seen below, right) garnered roughly 2,500 likes and 173 reposts in a few hours.
On YouTube, numerous content creators also covered Carrozza's arrest. For example, Cr1tikal uploaded a video discussing the topic on July 14th, 2024, receiving over 2.7 million views and 86,000 likes in 10 days (seen below, left). On July 15th, YouTuber sensitive soci3ty then uploaded a video on Carrozza, receiving over 109,000 views and 5,600 likes in nine days (seen below, right).
