ChatGPT Instagram Roast Challenge or ChatGPT Instagram Feed Roasting Trend, also known as Ask ChatGPT To Roast Your Feed In One Paragraph, refers to a viral Instagram trend and challenge in which people ask the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT to roast and insult users’ pictures and videos on their feeds. The trend started in mid-August 2024 consisting of people taking a screenshot of their feed, sending it to ChatGPT and then sharing the text via an Instagram Story template. The challenge also sparked a viral debate on X / Twitter and Reddit over using the AI tool to read personal information.
Origin
Although It is unclear who started the ChatGPT Instagram roast challenge, one of the earliest mentions about the trend was posted on Instagram by user @alydavishair[1] on August 9th, 2024, in which she added the caption, "I asked ChatGPT to give me its first impression of my page," over a selfie and added the ChatGPT in the next two slides, amassing roughly 1,000 likes and 130 comments in two weeks (seen below).

Over the next few weeks, the ChatGPT Instagram roast challenge was popularized on the internet, inspiring netizens to screenshot their Instagram profile and ask the artificial intelligence to write a paragraph roasting their feed.
For example, on August 20th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @modivo posted a video (seen below) of the reply ChatGPT gave after it analyzed the creator's IG feed. The post amassed over 700,000 plays and 2,600 likes in a week.

On August 18th, 2024, Redditor[3] @vidhinder uploaded a screenshot of the paragraph written by the AI tool roasting their Instagram feed (seen below), which amassed more than 300 upvotes and 60 comments in a week.
