Overview
Percy Hynes White Sexual Assault Allegations and Cancel Percy or #CancelPercy refers to a series of sexual assault, predatory behavior and racism accusations aimed at Canadian actor Percy Hynes White, best known for his role as Xavier Thorpe in Wednesday. The controversy is notably associated with the hashtag "#CancelPercy," which was used in an attempt to cancel the actor over the claims. The allegations first came to light on Twitter on January 18th, 2023, and inspired more women to come forward over the following days.
Background
On January 18th, 2023, Twitter[1] user @milkievich posted a screenshot of a series of DMs written by herself alleging that Percy Hynes White and his "friend group" from Toronto, Canada have been known predators since they were 15, claiming they had a history of trying to manipulate girls into sending nudes and having sex with them. She alleged that when he got older he would throw parties to try and get girls high and drunk to have sex with him, as well as making the claim that he had sex with an underage girl. According to her post, she also accused him of leaving her while she overdosed to go have sex with her 16-year-old friend. The post (shown below) gained over 9,900 likes and 3,200 retweets in a day.
Later that day, the same Twitter[2] user posted, "knowing that me and my friend's shocked, sick to our stomach reactions to seeing Percy Hynes White in our new favorite show is finally and my experience at his party in high school being justified cus yall are LISTENINGGGG . thank you," and started a thread under the post to collect and share more evidence of White's alleged predatory and criminal behavior.
About 30 minutes after it was posted, Twitter[3] user @itsyagurlkayy commented saying White deleted DMs from her in the past calling him out, and also alleged that he told her to kill herself. The user purportedly DMed White on Instagram asking him to apologize and "own up." She took a screenshot of him typing his purported response.[4]
Later that night on January 18th, Twitter[5] user @desireeecameron claimed that Percy "let [her] get raped in his basement" and let a rapist live at his mother's house. The victim purportedly DMed White about the situation and he responded, writing that he would look into the situation (shown below, left and right).
Twitter[6] user @RoWednesdayA posted screenshots of White's alleged first and last tweets from his alleged (now deactivated) Twitter account @impercenator. Twitter[7] user @katiesoul143 posted screenshots of DMs allegedly from White's fans after he sent them after her showing them insulting and interacting aggressively with her. That night, Twitter[8] user @itsyagurlkayy posted screenshots of DM's between herself and a girl who claims she slept with White when she was 14 and he was older (age unknown), claiming he knew she was underage at the time (shown below).
On January 19th, 2023, Twitter[9] user @milkievich then posted screenshots purportedly of White sending inappropriate photos to a group chat of alleged minors, including photos of him naked on the toilet (shown below).
Later that day, the same Twitter[10] user posted a video of White performing a skit where he uses the term "coon," a racial slur and caricature[14] (shown below).

Online Reactions
The allegations spread across social media in mid-January 2023 along with the hashtag "#CancelPercy," seeing notable spread on TikTok[11] as users reposted the purported evidence, including the video where White uses the term "coon." On January 19th, 2023, TikToker[12] @ikttkim posted a video under the #CancelPercy hashtag of White resting his hand near Jenna Ortega's breasts during an interview, garnering over 600,000 views in under 10 hours (shown below). On the same day, Pedestrian.tv[13] reported on the allegations, writing that White disabled his Instagram comments after the accusations and controversy surfaced. Distractify[15] and TheMarySue[16] reported on the allegations later that day.
On the same day, one of the accusers, @itsyagurlkayy08 (itsyagurlkayy on Twitter), posted a video to TikTok[17] captioned, "19 days into 2023 and me and my friends have already managed to cancel one of Netflix's biggest stars rn," garnering over 50,000 views in under 24 hours."
