Background

Sam candles is an American YouTuber and EN-VTuber who specialized in making commentary videos about video games. On July 18, 2026, Sam would publish a video called "Lolicon, Censorship, and Ethics in Art" where she tries to defend the existence of lolicon by claiming that the content kept crime statistics in Japan down in 1999 and cites Tamaki Saito's book "Robot Ghosts" as further evidence for her stance even though the book was truly speaking on Otaku culture.

Naturally as a consequence of the subject matter, the video proved to be very controversial. It would eventually result in Sam deleting the video and delisting the rest of her content and essentially running away from the internet. However, in a post on YouTube, Sam had stated that she was retooling herself in hopes of making a grand return.

She also made the argument that anyone who was against Lolicon were no better than fascists or transphobes.

Notable Developments

The YouTuber Crispy's Tavern: Tales and Tea would make the "No. Creeping on Anime Girls Isn’t Woke" in response to the controversy by pointing out that Sam saw the Lolicon fetish and Lolita fashion as interchangeable and also criticizes her of using the tired "video games don't make people violent" argument to argue that people seeking out Lolicon media weren't pedophiles.

Crispy would also expose Sam's Bluesky account where Sam went on a psychotic breakdown not only confessing that she was into lolicon, but also age regression, macrophilia, and grooming. Sam's YouTube and social media platforms would go dark on September 1 as she tried to reject responsibility for her actions.
