Update as of July 3rd PROCEED WITH CAUTION As of July 1st, Valve has taken extensive measures to alleviate Team Fortress 2's botting crisis. While we as a community are incredibly grateful for the actions being taken, many of us believe that further evidence is required to warrant a newfound sense of confidence in game's future. If Bots Remain Gone By the Summer Update: These efforts require persistent and continuous upkeep, otherwise we run the risk reverting back to a bot-infested status quo. As the Summer Update draws near, Team Fortress 2 consumers should be heavily encouraged to adjust their spending habits and/or review scores based on whether or not these anti-bot measures continue. This would be great news! However, we must keep in mind that malicious actors have a heightened incentive to host bots during periods of major player-excitement. Before jumping the gun on any in-game or Steam market purchases, we highly recommend waiting on much more additional proof that bot accounts are being met with swift and consistent action. Examples include; game-bans, community bans, and/or account deletion. If Bots Return Before or After the Summer Update: We recommend withholding all monetary investment from TF2 until the issue has been resolved. Team Fortress 2 deserves to be in a playable state before players resume supporting the product financially.

$I grow weary of this f------ forum and, frankly, deliberately antagonizing people while airing out my legitimate grievances isn't funny anymore. here's a moderately sized list of every reason you SHOULDN'T support fixtf2 1) team fortress 2 is older than the majority of the people currently pushing this inane movement and is INFAMOUS for its spaghetti code. do you want to work on a game this old, shambled together using awful duct-tape fixes for everything? no, no one does. 2) developing functioning anticheat is a cat-n-mouse game at best and a sisyphean task at worst;, not even massive companies with several thousand employees can develop anticheat for modern games that remains undefeated, even kernel level anticheat can be bypassed these days, the treadmill work simply isn't worth it. considering tf2 barely breaks even money-wise 3) valve is a privately traded company, your complaning will to nothing to shift their actions, the only reason review bombing worked for helldivers 2 is because sony is publicly traded, meaning they had to answer to their shareholders. shareholders can sue the hell out of any company that isn't living up to expectations, thus sony had to buckle to the community, valve has no such weakness, steam alone makes so much money that a complete and total boycott of the tf2 marketplace wouldn't even make a fraction of a dent in their overall profits. 4) valve's unique horizontal structure guarantees that nobody will work on t12 unless they want to be fired. in place of middle/upper management, valve has cliques and ego-driven senior devs that judge your decisions, choosing to work on tf2 instead of anything the senior devs prefer will almost certainly result in your termination from the company, that kind of work environment doesn't exactly facilitate the idea you can just get a job at valve and work on tf2 yourself. 76561199584261538- 46 minutes ago #FixTF2 Is killing tf2 The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question. This is a HUGE change that is simply too good to ignore. For details, you should read this amazing guide, but in short this means that setting up a public server is now easier than ever before. With -enablefakelp, you don't have to worry about neither port forwarding nor your IP falling into bad people's hands. As explained in the guide, which I again encourage you to read, you can either launch a local server (with the map mapname command or the "create server" button in main menu) or, if you want plugins and a lot more control, a dedicated one. If you're starting a local server, you'll need to use "sv_lan 0" and change the map once to make it show up in the browser as well as to connect to the item servers, and if you want a dedicated one, you'll have to set it up manually which isn't hard at all. Just follow one of the guides from the wiki: Windows Linux I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to try running a TF2 server with silly/amateur-made maps or plugins and play on them semi-seriously, just like in casual. And if you don't enjoy silly things like the many serious members of this forum, you are more than welcome to host your own thing that you wish to see. That's the kind of mentality I want to sprout from this. In a dream scenario where this idea takes off, maybe some people will even be making their own maps, plugins, mvm missions or host events where players will be able to submit their stuff. It will be pure, unadulterated community-made fun just like back in the day, and it will be awesome. The only downside of the -enablefakeip method is that the server's IP will be different every time it's launched, so sadly people won't be able to favorite it. At least, not unless a way to stabilize the IP is found or already known. For that reason and for the purposes of actually getting players on the server, I propose posting about it in this thread whenever you start one up. Previously I thought that it would be nice to use the desolate "looking for players" subforum for this, but nobody really goes there and hopefully the mods won't see it as advertising if it's all in one place. Additionally, if you're using a dedicated server, I think it's a good idea to use a tag specifically to mark these kind of "run by people, for the people" servers. I recommend "enablefakeip, savetf2, fixtf2". I know the last two are cringy, but it's already a well- established thing, so it wouldn't be hard to remember and would only garner more publicity.
