About

"Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans" American Eagle Ad refers to a viral debate about actress Sydney Sweeney doing an advertising campaign for American Eagle jeans in which she says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue." The advertisement ends with the words, "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." Though the viral marketing campaign garnered significant attention for its suggestive themes, many internet users also criticized Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle for the ads, accusing them of making an advertisement that contained "Nazi dog whistles" and promoted "white supremacist" ideas about superior genetics and eugenics. Other internet users pushed back against this characterization of the advertisement, saying critics were being too woke and that the ad was directly inspired by a tape Brooke Shields recorded for Calvin Klein when she was 15 years old.
