Origin

The "Every Teenager Needs To Hear This" meme originates from a 2019 Prince EA video intended to motivate teenagers, posted on August 19th, 2019 to Facebook, Youtube and other platforms.

Beginning

This video received many plays on Youtube, but was never used in an ironic format until May 12th, 2022, when now-banned TikTok user @wizardpem posted a video with the text above a Trillerfn1. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/sites/triller[1] for Autumn's song, "Outta My Mind!"

The video was seen by a large audience on TikTok, who repurposed the meme and used it in both ironic and serious ways. The oldest known video with this format currently on TikTok was uploaded by user @juugrichvexx, which uses the music video for Lil Shine's song, "No No No!".

After the trend had picked up on TikTok, it was used and posted to other sites such as Reddit and Instagram, used by fans of musicians such as Bladee and Yung Lean. However, around this time the format began to fade into irrelevance.

Revival

Around early 2023, the format began to see a rise in popularity, when TikTok user @illegalbugtrader began to use the format in his Hood Irony TikTok videos. From there, the meme began to see a rise in more ironic uses from other memepages as well as verified accounts on TikTok. One of the most viral cases of the meme has been a video of Lil Uzi Vert freestyling, with the audio changed out for a whistled audio of the popular song Yankee Doodle. This meme was reposted on multiple pages, including the official Rolling Loud TikTok.
