Origin
The video originated from Daryl Ginn's tweet[1]. The tweet received 38k likes, and 20k retweets.
The video was then posted on Reddit on October 2018 in r/web_design[2]. It was an instant hit and received over 3.5k upvotes, even hitting the front page. The video is shown below
Spread
After appearing in r/web_design, the video was later reposted to multiple other subreddits, including r/funny, which received over 85k upvotes and hit the Reddit front page again. Users also reported the post reaching their Google feeds, as shown below.
After being republished to other subreddits, the video topped the trending page multiple time, each time by a different post. The video received approximately 100,000+ upvotes in all. The video also sparked longs discussions criticizing the notifications of a website.
Once the video went viral on Reddit, it was also picked up by many other websites, including What If? HQ, and CemeTech
Duplicate Content
Due to the amount of popularity the video received, it was posted an extreme number of times. This included multiple times in the same subreddit. These posts were mostly downvoted, however, some still managed to fain a few upvotes.
