Exciting Whites refers to an exploitable meme and reaction image depicting a picture of the supermarket sign reading, "Exciting Whites," which references a white wine section in a grocery store or supermarket. The image went viral on X, Reddit and Instagram as a reaction meme in December 2022, mostly being used to humorously make fun of white people's behavior on social media.

Origin

The earliest known post of a grocery or wine shop aisle sign that reads "Exciting Whites" was a September 20th, 2021 post by X^[4] user @DR0girl, who wrote, "When you and your friends see many jam band shows a year," and gathered over 500 likes in three years.

However, the earliest known notable post using the image was a December 11th, 2021 post by X^[1] user @byChrisJoseph, who wrote, "When Tyler, Duncan, and Strus are all ballin out," in reference to various NBA players. The post gathered over 1,000 likes in three years (seen below).

Spread

The wine sign displaying "Exciting Whites" became a prominent exploitable on social media over the following years, often used to compliment a white athlete or to poke fun at stereotypical behavior.

For example, on December 23rd, 2023, Redditor^[2] bomac14 photoshopped the picture of two Miami Heat players (shown below, left) under the "exciting whites" image, which garnered more than 460 upvotes and comments 37 in five months. On May 1st, X^[3] user @DustinNickerson posted the image paired with the caption "When Sweet Caroline comes on at the wedding," which received roughly 370 likes and 60 retweets in a year.
