Gen Z Bible Stories or Gospel By Gen Z refers to a series of parodies and memes that translate memorable lines from The Bible using Gen Z or Zoomer slang in place of the original text. The trend went viral on TikTok in August 2023 when the TikTok account @gen.z.bible.stories started to read some of the Gen Z Bible quotes in a humorous tone. The trend shares similarities to other "Zoomerification" examples.
Origin
One of the earliest online mentions of a Gen Z bible was posted as a form of comedy skit by YouTuber[1] @SundayCoolTees on April 3rd, 2019. In the video (shown below), the creator reads some memorable lines from the gospel using Zoomer slang, which amassed over 512,000 views and 16,000 likes in five years.
A book[2] titled The Bible According to Gen Z: Help Your Young People Enjoy Life with the Bible dated back to June 12th, 2013, also appears to mention the Gen Z slang, hoping to "explore one aspect of engaging youth with the Christian faith" (cover shown below).

The concept of Gen Z Bible stories and "Zoomerified" translations went viral in mid-2023 after TikToker[3] @gen.z.bible.stories started to read various Bible stories using Gen Z humor and slang. The earliest post from the creator dates back to August 19th, 2023, in which a friend reads one of his "Gen Z Bible" scripts (shown below, left), which amassed over 3.9 million plays and 480,000 likes in six months.
On August 30th, the creator posted another video[4] about the John 7:37 passage, which says, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink!" The video (shown below, right) used Gen Z slang to retell the story, amassing more than 4 million plays and 408,000 likes in six months.
