Gerald Robotnik and Eggman Dancing, also known as Two Robotniks Dancing and Two Eggmen Dancing, refers to a scene from the 2024 adventure comedy film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in which the characters Gerald Robotnik and Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik (each played by actor Jim Carrey) dance together to song "Galvanize" by The Chemical Brothers. Following the film's premiere in December 2024, the scene achieved virality as a video and GIF caption format in memes.

Origin

On December 20th, 2024, the adventure comedy film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premiered.[1] In one scene of the film, the character Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik and his grandfather Professor Gerald Robotnik, both portrayed by Jim Carrey, are dancing to "Galvanize" by British EDM band The Chemical Brothers with a laser show happening during the scene. On December 21st, 2024, YouTube[2] user IndefiniteStorage uploaded the scene in low quality to YouTube (shown below), where it received over 449,000 views in two weeks.



On December 23rd, 2024, TikTok[3] user @penjaminblinkers posted the earliest notable meme based on the scene, a video caption meme pairing the clip with a caption referencing Jim Carrey's commitment to stay in retirement unless there is a script that "is written in gold ink." The upload, set to a remix of "Bimbo Doll" by Tila Tsoli, (shown below) received over 3.2 million views and 590,000 likes in two weeks.

On December 26th, 2024, iFunny[4] user Bruhhhhh_ reposted the video, with the upload gaining over 12,200 smiles in 10 days.

In late December 2024, the song and its versions set to various songs gained popularity as a caption meme format on X and TikTok. For example, on December 31st, 2024, X[5] user @DevSprings posted a Five Nights at Freddy's meme based on the video that received over 1,400 reposts and 15,000 likes in one week (shown below).


On January 2nd, 2025, X[6] user @zerowontmiss posted a caption meme about Marvel Rivals based on the format that received over 1,000 reposts and 14,000 likes in three days (shown below).
