About
Glorbo AI Bait or Glorbo Artificial Intelligence Article Baiting refers to World of Warcraft and Destiny communities posting fake news and misinformation about a character called Glorbo being added to their games in order to bait sites that use AI to write articles based on community posts to trick them into creating an article about it. The idea ultimately succeeded as the gaming news site Z League published an article about players' reaction to the introduction of a fabricated character "Glorbo," with several more AI-driven websites falling for the bait in July 2023.
Origin
On July 20th, 2023, Redditor[1] C0RDE_ posted a screenshot of several AI-generated World of Warcraft articles on gaming content website Z League which were based on Reddit threads posted in the /r/wow subreddit, commenting, "At this point I can only assume sites like this are using AI to scrape this Sub for content." Later that day, Z League generated an article based on the thread, which was again linked in the subreddit (shown below).[2]
Later on July 20th, 2023, Redditor[3] kaefer_kriegerin made a fake post in which they reacted to World of Warcraft introducing Glorbo.
I’m so excited they finally introduced Glorbo!!! Honestly, this new feature makes me so happy! I just really want some major bot operated news websites to publish an article about this. I have to say, since they started hinting at it in Hearthstone in 1994, it was obvious that they would introduce Glorbo to World of Warcraft sooner or later. I feel like Dragonflight has been win after win so far, like when they brought back Chen Stormstout as the end boss of the new Karazhan? Absolutely amazing!
Within two hours,[4] Z League published an article based on the thread titled "World of Warcraft (WoW) Players Excited for Glorbo’s Introduction."[5] The article has since been removed from the website, alongside the entire World of Warcraft section.
Spread
On July 20th, 2023, World of Warcraft producer Kyle "Zorbrix" Hartline tweeted[6] a screenshot of the Z League article, making a sarcastic comment. The tweet (shown below) gained over 50 retweets and 800 likes in one week.

In the following days, multiple news websites, including Ars Technica[7] and BBC,[8] reported that the Warcraft community managed to prove AI being used to write articles with the fake post.
The trick was then adopted by Redditors in the /r/destiny2 subreddit, who starting on July 24th, 2023, posted fake posts about Glorbo, supposedly a secret boss recently added to the game (examples[9][10] shown below, left and right).
The posts were followed by several AI-driven gaming content websites posting about Glorbo, including Techbriefly and Gaming Acharya, with screenshots of the articles then being posted in the /r/destiny2[11][12] subreddit.
