Overview
The Hannah Brown Charlie Kirk Memorial Controversy refers to backlash towards comedy TikToker Hannah Brown (@.hannahbrown) after she was spotted attending a memorial vigil for conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk after he was shot at Utah Valley University in mid-September 2025. The controversy began in late September after a video by TikToker @bradleychicago, in which he points her out in the crowd and wonders why she's there, went viral. In response, Brown posted a video defending herself, claiming she is not MAGA, but that she has empathy for Kirk and his family and does not support gun violence against anyone. The incident purportedly caused Brown to lose hundreds of thousands of followers and inspired a wave of cancelation and backlash against her from Kirk's detractors and liberals online. Some people called Brown out for purportedly failing to ever post in support of Palestine due to her claim that she attended Kirk's memorial to support human life, suggesting it is a bad excuse and that if she really cared about human life, she would support Palestine.

Hannah Brown's Response
On September 24th, 2025, Hannah Brown posted a response video on TikTok,[3] garnering over 8.3 million views in a day. In the video, Brown defends herself for going to the memorial. She insists she is not MAGA and that she "did not go to a MAGA rally." She acknowledges that she and Kirk had "differing beliefs" but that he didn't deserve to die, expressing sympathy for his family. She encourages anyone who thinks Kirk deserved to get shot to unfollow her.
She then talks about how disturbed she was by the video of Kirk's assassination and by seeing all the comments celebrating his death. Brown says she went to the memorial to "pay her respects to a human that died." She ends the video by saying, "If you are truly against gun violence, you cannot celebrate when someone you don't like gets shot. You are a hypocrite," and again encourages people to unfollow if they disagree.

@user130628124 @Hannah Brown Where were you at the memorials for the thousands of children slaughtered in their classrooms? Silent. Absent. But you made sure to show up for him. Don’t kid yourself--you made a political statement the moment you walked through those doors. He said the deaths of those children were worth it to keep gun laws untouched, and you stood there honoring him anyway. That’s not neutrality, that’s alignment. You can’t cozy up at the funeral of a racist, sexist pig and then claim you don’t share in it. #hannahbrown #hannahbrownapology #fyp ♬ original sound – user13062812
That same day, TikToker[5] @1araquinn posted a video criticizing Brown, sarcastically supporting her, calling Kirk a "white supremacist." She then accuses Brown of failing to ever speak about the Free Palestine movement and Palestine in general. Ultimately, she suggests that Brown can't claim she went to the memorial because she "cares about human life" if she doesn't support Palestinians using her platform. She also points out that Brown lost over 100,000 followers since the controversy began. The video gained over 1.1 million views in a day.
