About

Han Is Back refers to the return of Fast and Furious character Han Seoul-Oh (portrayed by Sung Kang) in the F9 trailer. His return spawns several reactions and debates about how he survived after his Mazda RX-7 FD Veilside got T-Boned by a Mercedes S-Class driven by Deckard Shaw (portrayed by Jason Statham) in Central Shibuya, Tokyo.

Origin

In February 1st, 2020, the official trailer for F9, the 9th Fast and Furious movie franchise was released. The trailer featured Dominic Toretto (portrayed by Vin Diesel) and his crew facing Jakob Toretto (portrayed by John Cena), an assassin and Dom's younger brother. The trailer also featured Han Seoul-Oh returning to the crew[1].

Spread

Han's return spawned many controversies, reactions, and debates, especially how he survived the car crash. Two theories appeared to explain his appearance, by taking example from several evidences in the franchise. The first theory states that Han did managed to escape his car right before it explode, despite he never shown to escape the car. They took example of Leticia Ortiz (portrayed by Michelle Rodriguez), which previously assumed to be dead, is shown still alive in Fast and Furious 6, but having some amnesia. The second theory states that Han did died, but being resurrected using technologies. The second theory took example from Brixton Lore (portrayed by Idris Elba), a former MI6 agent whose joining a terrorist organization named Eteon, before getting shot by Deckard Shaw. Eteon later recovered his body, implanting cybernetic limbs and some extra enhancements, thus resurrected him as (in his own words) "Black Superman"[2].

His return also spawned several internet memes, and often associated with COVID-19 lockdown. Several memes also mocked his new ride, a 2020 Toyota Supra, which seemed to be modified to resemble his RX-7.
