Housemate Stuff Trend or Rommate Stuff Trend refers to a TikTok trend in which roommates share a collection of items in the household to spot their differences. The trend was popularized in early November 2023, especially after a post showing roommate Anna's stuff being way different than the others, which prompted the hashtag #justiceforanna in her defense.

Origin

One of the earliest posts of the "housemate stuff trend" was uploaded on October 31st, 2023, by TikTok^[1] user @aaaaaalisa_, who shared a collection of personal items like phone cases, purses, perfumes and water bottles. The video (shown below) amassed roughly 45,000 plays and 167 likes in two months.

Spread

On November, 27th, 2023, TikTok^[2] user @laurabett13 posted a series of images featuring items of her roommates Em, Lauryn and Anna. The latter roommate received online attention, as her belongings were different than the others. The post (images shown below) amassed over 16 million 1 million likes in five days.

Anna roommate items' inspired people to create the #justiceforanna, in which people tried to defend her from online hate. For instance, on November 28th, 2023, TikTok^[3] user @cheechtohischong posted a video (shown below, left) with an overlay text saying "I love this trend of showing u n ur roomies stuff bc u can always tell who made the TikTok and who is the hated one of the house." The video amassed over 16 million plays and 1.9 million likes in four days. On the same day, Anna^[4] the roommate posted a video (shown below, right) saying she is the hated roommate in the viral video. The post garnered over 1.4 million plays and 70,000 likes in four days.
