"I Need A Chair" Trend refers to a viral TikTok trend where users contort their bodies into the shape of a chair, often using the support of a wall and making jokes about a boyfriend or ex needing a chair. The trend is set to a sped-up version of Ginuwine's "Pony" and went viral in January 2022.

Origin

On January 21st, 2022, TikToker[1] @mickieee.d posted a video presenting the on-screen text "my ex: i need a chair," set to an original sound consisting of Ginuwine's "Pony" sped-up where she does a handstand against a wall, her heels to the wall, then slides her body down the wall so her body resembles a chair, joking that she is desperate to get back with her ex, gaining over 8.6 million views in a week (shown below).

Spread

The trend spread over the following days. On January 22nd, 2022, TikToker[3] @thefnafbabe posted a video doing it, gaining over 5 million views in six days (shown below, left). On January 23rd, TikToker[4] @piperrockelle posted a video doing the trend, gaining over 11 million views in five days (shown below, right).

On the same day, TikToker[5] @sharkkyp posted a video where one girl contorts into the chair shape and another tries to sit on her, causing her to fall, gaining over 6.1 million views in five days (shown below).
