I Think I Like That Name or I'm Thinkin' I Like That Name is a catchphrase used in a series of memes parodying a media trope in which a villainous character takes their name from a comment that the hero makes while criticizing them for their evil actions. The memes are based on a viral Twitter / X meme made in September 2024 in reference to the reveal of A Minecraft Movie, in which Herobrine gets his name after someone says, "you were supposed to be a hero, Bryan." The meme became increasingly popular in early 2025.

Origin

On September 4th, 2024, X^[1] user @DiamondBrickZ posted two images from the teaser for A Minecraft Movie: one showing one of the protagonists and another, an edit of Jason Momoa's character with white, glowing eyes. The post reads, "'But you were supposed to be a hero, Bryan! What happened to you?' 'Hmm… I’m thinkin’ I like that name.' (orchestral Wet Hands in minor starts playing)," garnering over 125,000 likes in four months.

Spread

On September 5th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @strangerborn posted a voiced over edit of the X post by @DiamondBrickZ, garnering over 2.8 million views in four months.

On December 13th, u/TheLegend2T posted a similar meme to /r/MinecraftMemes^[3] imagining how the Guardian mob gained its name, garnering over 7,800 upvotes in a month.

In January 2025, the meme became increasingly popular on X. For example, on January 21st, 2025, X^[4] user @Garb4geEat3r_ posted a version about Dr. Andonuts from Earthbound that gained over 660 likes in nine days. On January 25th, X^[5] user @JackoPumpKid posted a version about Twisted Dandy from Dandy's World that gained over 3,200 likes in five days.

On January 28th, X^[6] user @RealBlazeFan02 posted a version of the meme about the naming of Blaze the Cat from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, garnering over 32,000 likes in two days. On January 29th, X^[7] user @dailyoni posted a version about the horror game Aoi Oni, garnering over 4,200 likes in a day.
