About

"I, Too, Am Extraordinarily Humble" is a memorable quote uttered by the character Drax in the film 2017 Marvel superhero science fiction action film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Online, people use the quote and screen captures of Drax saying the line to make jokes about a lack of modesty.

Origin

On May 5th, 2017, the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released in the United States.[1] In the film, the character Drax (portrayed by Dave Bautista), who is defined by a lack of self-awareness and an inability to understand metaphors, sarcasm or other figures of speech, says, "Humility, I like it. I, too, am extraordinarily humble" (clip below).

On August 9th, 2019, Redditor [2] chapthecollector posted a screenshot of the character saying the line in the /r/humblebrag subreddit. The post received more than 1,300 points (96% upvoted) in less than two years (shown below).

I, too, am extraor . dinarily humble

Spread

Over the next two years, the image continued to be used sporadically. For example, on May 25th, 2018, an image of Drax next to the quote was posted in the /r/PewdiePieSubmissions subreddit (shown below, left).[3] However, the meme was not consistently used until January 2019.

On January 24th, 2019, Redditor[4] ARK_133 posted the image in the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit. They captioned the image, "When you have AirPods and go five minutes without a selfie." Within four months, the post received more than 5,200 points (98% upvoted) and 190 comments (shown below, center).

That day, Redditor[5] hooray_im_helping posted a version of the meme with a joke about the People Who Sort By New meme. The post received more than 4,000 points (95% upvoted) in two months (shown below, right).
