Jokes about receiving a Maple Syrup Footjob, preferably at a Denny's, began to spread online in early 2023, as seen in Instagram posts from January and March of that year (examples seen below).

On August 18th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @b1tter..sweet made a post that read, "Help he keeps looking at me and the syrup I don't know why," gathering over 1.9 million plays and 200,000 likes in eight months (seen below).

On September 17th, TikToker^[3] @notapplbttmjnz posted a video titled, "Trying the IHOP Syrup Trend," gathering over 2 million plays and 200,000 likes in seven months (seen below, right).

The now-defunct TikTok account @applbottomjnz led to the trend gathering online attention, as seen in reposts by TikTokers @_coco_207^[4] and @user137684735^[5] around September 18th, 2023, that gathered over 600,000 views each in roughly seven months (seen below).
