In the 1987 film Lethal Weapon, Homicide Sergeant Roger Murtaugh repeatedly says the memorable quote "I'm getting too old for this shit" when faced with dangerous and frustrating circumstances while on the job after recently celebrating his 50th birthday.

On January 1st, 2012, the quote was added to the "Character Aged with the Actor" entry on the tropes database website TV Tropes.[3] On March 6th, a supercut by editor Ben Craw featuring variations of the phrase "I'm getting too old for this" was highlighted on the film news site Moviefone.[2] On March 13th, the supercut was reblogged on the viral content site BuzzFeed.[1]
