On August 30th, 2020, Redditor^[1] Romantrxsh posted an America Invading for Oil reaction meme based on an image of a non-Unicode shy emoji combined with Two Fingers Touching emoji combination and captioned "Is for me?" The post received over 89,300 upvotes in /r/memes in two weeks (show below).

Spread

Starting on August 30th, the image macro gained popularity on Reddit, with multiple users posting reaction memes based on it. For example, on that day, Redditor^[2] dcxr posted a meme that received over 24,200 upvotes in two weeks (shown below, left). A meme posted by Redditor^[3] TheDonutor on the same day gained over 27,800 upvotes prior to being removed (shown below, right).

In late August and early September 2020, the format received moderate spread online, mainly spreading on Reddit, with some viral posts also appearing on other platforms.
