Is That Your Hand on my Girlfriend refers to a series of lip syncing TikTok videos in which users act out the lyrics to Nickelback's song "Next Contestant."

Origin

On October 4th, 2005, Canadian Nickelback released their fifth studio album "All the Right Reasons."[1] The song "Next Contestant" about defending a girlfriend is featured on the album (shown below).

On February 28th, 2019, TikTok user @deanhassell uploaded a lip sync of a clip of the song "Next Contestant" (shown below). The video gained 30,600 likes and 2,190 shares in two months.

The soundclip uploaded by @deanhassell was used in over 8,100 videos in two months. On March 5th, 2019, @sirglen uploaded their own rendition which accumulated over 12,500 likes and 800 shares in two months (shown below, left). On March 27th, @noemisalghini upload another solo lip sync which gained over 21,300 likes and 325 shares in a month (shown below, right).

On April 7th, TikTok user @tropiiczz uploaded a version of the lip sync with his girlfriend (shown below, left). The video gained 97,700 likes and 28,300 shares. It also became a popular video to duet . On April 10th, @M1ndset posted a duet in which they mocked the "boyfriend" in the video by waddling into their frame after he walks out of his own frame (shown below, center). The parody gained 173,700 likes and 5,700 shares in two weeks. The next day, @TristenmacLean uploaded a duet parody in which they make it seem as if the "girlfriend" is stealing some of his Cheetos (shown below, right). The parody accumulated over 131,900 likes and 1,300 shares in two weeks.
