I've Made A Robot That Screams, or its original title Robot that Screams, refers to a comic webcomic published in 2012 by KC Green, in which a scientist retroactively wonders why he enginnered a screaming robot. This comic later became an exploitable template with which memers alter the dialogue of the characters in the comic.

Origin

On February 27th, 2012, artist KC Green posted on his website^[1] and on his Tumblr account^[2] a coming in which a scientist proudly announces to a colleague: "I've made a robot that screams". The colleague's following reaction to the screaming robot is the question "Why?", which leaves the main protagonist silently pondering. In 10 years, the Tumblr post cumulated more than 186000 notes.

Spread

In the years since the comic was first posted, two different types of edits emerged. The first type edits the robot's scream in order to depict a strawman of a community (examples shown below).

The second type includes redraws and edits featuring the same kind of scenario, applied to fictional robotic characters from various franchises. One of the oldest instances is DeviantArt user yagyag's two variations^[3][4] featuring the Sweetie Belle Derelle meme, probably in reference to the fan-made character Sweetie Bot, posted February 28th, 2013 (shown below, left). Among the most popular posts, Tumblr user Swingbees's fanart^[5] from November 9th, 2014, featuring RWBY gynoid Penny Polendina, got more than 3500 notes (shown below, right).

On May 4th, 2021, Redditor Totally_Generic_Name uploaded a Magic: the Gathering edit^[6] which gained more than 2200 upvotes, with 99% upvotes, and 54 comments.
