About
Jiggling Ball of Rice refers to a viral video of a Japanese Twitter user making a rice cake, repeatedly slapping it with a spoon as it wiggles around a machine. The clip grew popular on Twitter as users joked that the ball looked cute and it was being abused.
Origin
On December 27th, 2019, Twitter[1] user @shouheikawasaki posted several videos of him creating rice balls in a machine, including one clip where he slaps the dough with a spoon. That clip gained over 26,000 retweets and 94,000 likes (shown below).

Spread
The clip began spreading through English speaking Twitter thanks in part to a tweet by @boys4yuta[2] who captioned the video, "oh.. to be a ball of dough running in little circles," gaining over 16,000 retweets and 66,000 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @deardiarheha[3] replied by joking as though they were a "dough expert," gaining over 19,000 retweets and 76,000 likes (shown below, right).


Other Twitter users compared the dough to the Pokémon Snom. Twitter user @durianchop[5] made the comparison, gaining over 60 retweets and 290 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @cirtuslucy[4] also made the comparison, gaining over 280 likes (shown below, right).
