Jojo Doge vs. Cheems is a variation of the Swole Doge vs. Cheems format that depicts Swole Doge and Cheems as characters from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Typically, memes using the original artwork appear as a comparison format, which features two object labeling designations on each character, similar to Virgin vs. Chad. The artwork and format were popularized primarily on Reddit around late June 2020.

Origin

On June 18th, 2020, Newgrounds^[1] user MrChipperChopper uploaded their original artwork to the site under the title "Cringe Crimson" and the caption “Menamcing.” The image (seen below) reached the front page that day, receiving 1,800 views, 137 favorites, 269 votes and a score of 4.71 out of 5.

Spread

On June 18th, 2020, MrChipperChopper reposted the illustration to the r/dogelore sub on Reddit,^[2] receiving over 12,700 upvotes, 167 comments and several Reddit awards. In the following days, the artwork was transformed into an object labeling format and appeared on a number of various subreddits.

On June 23rd, 2020, Redditor^[3] MrMertons posted one of the earliest meme examples (shown below) to the r/dankmemes sub, where it received over 24,200 upvotes, 133 comments and a single Reddit gold award.

Redditor^[4] FortuneRidge then uploaded another variant to the r/PewdiepieSubmissions subreddit on June 23rd, 2020, under the title “20% brain increase!” The meme (seen below) received over 17,300 upvotes, 109 comments and a silver award.

On June 24th, 2020, Redditor^[5] Spanish-Inquistion then posted the blank version to the r/MemeTemplatesOfficial sub, where it received over 5,200 upvotes and 70 comments. Uploaded under the title “Weak doge with strong jojo doge behind him,” the format continued to spread after the template was shared in the subreddit. On June 25th, 2020, Redditor^[6] Wygongster posted another example to the r/PewdiepieSubmissions sub, receiving over 14,600 upvotes and 71 comments (shown below).
