About

Joker Tattoo Meaning refers to a series of videos on TikTok claiming that having a Joker tattoo means you've suffered from a lack of love, abandonment or neglect issues and that you're withdrawn into yourself. In September 2022, TikTokers began sharing videos of Joker tattoos with the meaning, as well as skits where people tell Joker he's going to be their first tattoo, inspiring ironic skits making fun of the trend and the claim about the tattoo's meaning. The trend is similar to the Medusa Tattoo trend.

Origin

The meaning of Joker tattoos has been debated online. For example, on May 12th, 2020, Tatt Mag[1] published an article suggesting Joker tattoos represent "the darker side of life" and "perseverance," writing:

Joker tattoos can represent living with the darkness that’s always there, and acknowledging that as absurdly evil and chaotic a character he may be- it is equally absurd to have a moral code as strong as Batman’s, who demands perfection of himself.

On September 1st, 2022, TikToker[2] @short_mort posted a video responding to a commenter asking what Joker tattoos mean. The video shows two Joker images under the caption, "The joker tattoo means a lack of love, an abandonment/neglect withdrawn into oneself," garnering over 875,000 views in a month (shown below).

On September 10th, 2022, TikToker[3] @moonlightkb7 posted a skit where she tells Joker he's going to be her first tattoo and he says, "Not you please," garnering over 3 million views in three weeks (shown below, left). On September 14th, TikToker[4] @urprettysad posted a similar video where Joker shows compassion for her for getting the tattoo, garnering over 220,000 views in two weeks (shown below, right).
