The Kinda Chic Trend is an Instagram and TikTok trend in which participants share something that they think is "chic" that does not fit a traditional or expensive definition of chic, instead celebrating things like personal growth, peace, body positivity and healthy states of mind.

The trend was popularized throughout 2026 on Instagram Reels and TikTok. It began as early as April 2026 and continued to go viral over the following months as people shared things they felt were "kind of chic."

Origin

It is unclear exactly when the "Kinda Chic" trend started, however, early examples started appearing on social media sometime around late April 2026.

One early example was posted by Instagram^[1] user mariabegins on April 27th, 2026, in which she shares several photographs of herself with captions about how it's "kinda chic" to be body positive, garnering around 520 likes in four months.

Spread

The trend spread on Instagram and TikTok over the following months as users made posts about "chic" things related to body positivity, mental health, and other positive, uplifting ideals.

On July 27th, 2026, TikToker^[2] @frankiehelen posted a version of the trend about being a pro-choice, pro-vaccine tradwife, garnering over 40,000 views in about two weeks.

On August 2nd, TikToker^[3] @lifewitht00 posted a video following the trend with the caption, "Feels kind of chic to be chubby in a world obsessed with extreme skinny," gaining over 192,000 likes in five days.

On August 3rd, 2026, actress Drew Barrymore posted a carousel of images to Instagram^[4] following the trend, garnering over 170,000 likes in four days.
