About

Kobe-ing is the act of shouting "Kobe!" when throwing an object into a container, such as a basketball into a basketball goal, or a piece of trash into a trashcan. The act was made popular by Dave Chappelle on the Comedy Central TV show Chappelle's Show.

Origin

The act of "Kobe-ing" first appeared on Chappelle's Show in the twelfth episode of the first season, which aired on April 9th, 2003,[1] in a skit called "Everyday Athletes". In the skit, various people shouted an athlete's name before partaking in an action said athlete was made famous for (shown below). The first person in the skit shouts "Kobe!" before making a free throw.

The act would appear again on the fourth episode of the second season of Chappelle's Show, which aired on February 11th, 2004,[1] in a skit called "The Love Contract" (shown below). The end of the skit shows Dave Chappelle yelling "Kobe!" before throwing a used condom into a trashcan.
