Lamp Shade is a nonsensical catchphrase on Tumblr. The phrase also has also been used as a way to troll users on Tumblr who claim to be funnymen, created as a successor to kung pow penis, pee your pants and chungo as the next non-sequitur random tumblr meme.
The phrase was popularized and created by Tumblr user the-x-button
The phrase began further spreading on Tumblr after the-x-button, the same user who made the "lamp shade" post, responded to a post by himself which told everyone lamp shade should be a forced meme. on August 16 2018, After the-x-button made that post, he decided to add "lamp shade" to other peoples posts. It eventually made its way onto posts with hundreds of thousands of notes. This led to myriad Tumblr users to reblog the post with the phrase "lamp shade" (shown below).
