I Am Going to Kermit Suicide refers to a line said in a popular YouTube video showing hijinks in the virtual reality game VRChat. After the line appeared on YouTube, it was parodied in multiple remix videos on the site.

Origin

On January 18th, 2018, YouTuber Jameskii posted a video of strange and funny VRChat moments (shown below, left). In one scene, a player with a Kermit the Frog character is chased by the player in the game before jumping off a building and saying "I am going to Kermit suicide!" The video gained over 3 million views (shown below, left). On January 23rd, YouTuber Nova posted only the "Kermit suicide" clip, gaining 3.5 million views (shown below, right).

Precursor

On October 20th, 2015, YouTuber FAP Vines and the illest ever I swear posted a remixed video where Kermit struggles with a child on Sesame Street with a clip of a Kermit the Frog doll falling from a building, implying that Kermit had committed suicide. The clip gained over 1.1 million views (shown below). The clip would be used in several of the "Kermit Suicide" remixes.

Spread

Two months after Nova posted the clip to YouTube, it began seeing use in various remixes. One of the earliest remixes features the clip following a clip from Touhou Project. It was posted March 25th by user Stopit_Citrus and gained over 12,000 views (shown below, left). An ear rape version featuring "Piano Man" by Billy Joel was posted Zombie in the Cod Todd on the 30th gained over 7,000 views (shown below, right).

Other popular variations include another remix with the falling Kermit doll video posted April 5th, 2018, gaining over 44,000 views (shown below, left). A compilation of videos posted April 25th, 2018 by YaBoiDJ gained over 180,000 views (shown below, right).
