About
Let That Sink In is a catchphrase and pun referenced in memes, typically image macros, playing off the expression "let that sink in" but in a literal sense with a bathroom or kitchen sink entering a building. It is primarily used online as a reaction after someone ends a long comment or reply with the phrase "let that sink in" to mean letting the message find deeper meaning within the person. In October 2022, the meme saw a resurgence after Elon Musk entered the Twitter headquarters carrying a sink following his purchase of the company.
Origin
On March 24th, 2014, the Tumblr user dutchstar[1] used a photoshopped picture of a sink in an open doorway as a reply to another Tumblr user named worldpeaces, who said the phrase "just let that fucking sink in," prompting the first known time the pun and image were used in conjunction (shown below).

Spread
On March 31st, 2020, the subreddit r/Okbuddyretard received an upload from Redditor greedo_is_my_fursona[2] that involved a variation of "let that sink in," except it was made in a modded version of Minecraft (specifically the "Cooking for Blockheads" mod),[4] earning over 1,200 upvotes in two years (shown below).

2022 Elon Musk Reference
On October 26th, 2022, Tech mogul and billionaire Elon Musk reinvigorated the meme when he brought it to the forefront with his IRL[3] usage of it in his Buying of Twitter by way of him physically bringing a sink into Twitter headquarters with him, saying the phrase, and putting it in his tweet about the event, earning over 1 million likes in one day (shown below).
