About
Mapi is a virtual host of a game show of the same name on the Spanish television channel La 1. The character is depicted as a young girl with red-pink hair, a blue headband and pink overalls with an oversized head. Following the unveiling of the character, it became a subject of memes among Spanish users online in mid-2022.
Origin
On July 14th, 2022, Spanish TV network RTVE started advertising Mapi, an upcoming game show co-hosted by the titular character, a pink-haired virtual girl with a large head. On that day, Twitter[1] account @MapiTVE for the character and the show was launched, posting the first preview clip on the same day.[2]
On July 27th, 2022, @MapiTVE tweeted[3] an introduction video for Mapi which received over 2.6 million views, 800 retweets, 5,000 likes and over 9,800 quote tweets, effectively getting ratioed (shown below).

On August 1st, 2022, the first episode of Mapi premiered on La 1.[6]

Following the introduction video, the character became a subject of memes among Spanish users, with many memes expressing a strong dislike for the character similar to Ice Age Baby and Baby Nut memes. For example, on July 27th, 2022, Twitter[4] user @JesterFukkatsu posted a Neon Genesis Evangelion meme that received over 88,00 views, 1,700 retweets and 6,300 likes in one week (shown below).

On July 29th, Twitter[5] user @Nekodificador posted a The Shining meme that gained over 155,600 views, 1,200 retweets and 5,100 likes in four days (shown below).
