Mascot Selfies refers to a trend on Twitter started in the summer of 2018 in which people employed to dress as the mascots for various companies post selfies of themselves in the costume.
Origin
On July 31st, 2018, Twitter user @iPurrple[1] tweeted a selfie in which he was in the costume of the mascot for ice cream chain Baskin Robbins with the caption, "Wake up hustlers, let’s get this bread. No days off." The tweet gained over 88,000 retweets and 250,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
After the success of that post, many other users with similar jobs were inspired to post pictures of themselves in their mascot outfits. User @_sambundles posted such an image and gained over 70 retweets and 800 likes (shown below, left). User @DARUSSIANBADGER posted a picture of a mascot in a Dancing Hot Dog Snapchat Filter, gaining over 760 retweets and 3,800 likes (shown below, right)
The trend was covered by Mashable.[2] Other popular posts in the trend include a tweet by @villaci_raptor that gained over over 40 retweets and 520 likes (shown below, left). A post by @aliciousnus gained over 30 retweets and 280 likes (shown below, right).
