MatPat Unzips refers to an exploitable frame of a YouTubers React video showcasing MatPat of The Film Theorists and The Game Theorists looking at an image and unzipping his pants, ostensibly to masturbate. The image he unzips his pants to changes in the exploitables.

Origin

On September 25th, 2016 The Fine Bros uploaded a video titled "YOUTUBERS REACT TO HARAMBE" (shown below) in which MatPat references the "dicks out for harambe" joke (shown below).

On January 11th, 2018, Reddit user Trtroll^[1] uploaded to /r/dankmemes an image of MatPat unbuckling his pants to pornographic Cars fan art, gaining over 3,000 upvotes (shown below).

Spread

Over the course of the following day, dozens more images were uploaded to the subreddit. Popular examples include a meta version posted by NBr33zii^[2] celebrating the rise of the format as a meme in the subreddit, gaining over 1,000 upvotes in five hours (shown below, left). Another popular edit found MatPat unzipping his pants to a character from the film G-Force, posted by Solgrynn^[3] and gaining over 11,200 upvotes in 15 hours (shown below, right).

As more posts appeared on the subreddit, several threads about the format were posted to /r/memeeconomy. On the subreddit, a thread posted by CritzD showing Spongebob Squarepants giving oral sex to Patrick Star gained over 112 points (shown below, left).^[4] A template version of the meme was posted to the subreddit, gaining over 570 upvotes (shown below, right).^[5]
