Mud Girl (GTA 6)

Mud Girl is the nickname given to a woman covered in mud wearing an American flag bikini who appears in the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. The trailer was released in early December 2023 and quickly inspired discourse about the character, inspiring some to thirst over her, as well as create fan art of the character and cosplay as her.

Origin

On December 4th, 2023, the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI was released on YouTube.^[1] At the 00:54 mark, a scene of a woman in a backwards baseball cap, short-shorts and an American flag bikini covered in mud plays. In the scene, she approaches the camera with the " sign of the horns" hand gesture showing and her tongue out (shown below). The trailer gained over 141 million views in a week.

The character became the subject of discussion that day. For example, that day, an anonymous user of 4chan's^[2] /pol/ board posted a screenshot of the girl, writing, "Are White women in America really like this?" inspiring over 150 comments in the thread.

The character continued to inspire discourse over the following days, resulting in fan art, memes and posts about her. On December 5th, 2023, X^[3] user @KKArts09 posted the screenshot, writing, "the GTA6 trailer dropped and while everyone is simping over the Latina protagonist, I'm out here wondering who is SHE," garnering over 17,000 likes in six days (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[4] user @ZeroT_H posted fan art of the girl, garnering over 1,100 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

That day, X^[5] user @newguy1091 posted fan art of the character, garnering over 2,300 likes in six days (shown below, left). On December 6th, X^[6] user @Goldxn_Violin posted her screenshot, writing, "Save me mud girl save me," garnering over 2,900 likes in five days. On the same day, TikToker^[7] @ya_edge_boi_brainy013 posted a video simping for her that gained over 2.2 million views in five days.

On December 8th, X^[8] user and streamer @PeachJars posted a photo of herself cosplaying as Mud Girl, garnering over 106,000 likes in three days (shown below, right). On December 9th, the cosplay was posted to /r/GTA6,^[9] garnering over 4,400 upvotes in two days. On December 11th, the cosplay was reported on by Dexerto.^[10]
